Experienced users do not have the same needs as beginners. You are looking for a laptop and you hesitate between several models. What power? Which operating system? Linux, Windows or Mac OS X? So many points that won’t tell you if you’re making the right choice.
So we ran tests on Fujitsu Lifebook A555 to find out what it was worth.
So you’ll know what it’s worth at the end of this article.
Lifebook A555 enough for internet use?
Just because your use of a laptop is limited to e-mail and web browsing sessions, doesn’t mean you should buy any model.A minimum quality level is important to guarantee reliability over time. It is a balance between a 1st price and the latest multi-processor designed for professionals. In fact, it’s all about finding a product with the right price/quality ratio. This product will thus perfectly meet your needs.By putting on the market the Lifebook A555, Fujitsu offers a well thought-out product of very good quality.
The screen is quite large, with 15.6 inches. Not necessarily easy to carry around. The manufacturer offers a processor Intel Core i5-5200U; A mid-range orientation. Indeed, this processor is starting to date compared to what is on the market today. For a few euros more, it is possible to switch to more powerful processors. The power required for a fluid internet navigation, will sometimes be low on this model and may require a new purchase in 3 years. A standard equipment with 8 Gb of RAM. It’s the certainty that the computer will work better and longer.
The 256 Gb make this laptop a mid-range laptop in terms of available space. If, on the other hand, you are storing photos, video or music, it will be filled up quickly. Considering the offers currently available in terms of public cloud, and your internet usage, it is highly likely that you will never completely fill the disk space of this laptop.
Finally, an important point for a laptop: autonomy; here you will have 6 hours of freedom before you have to plug it back into the socket. With this laptop Lifebook A555 it will therefore be necessary to always keep the power cable within easy reach. Because of this last point, you can either switch to a competitor’s laptop or always have the product plugged in; it’s up to you.
Lifebook A555 for videos?
High quality, the engineers of Fujitsu have chosen to make this Lifebook A555 the top of the range for leisure uses: movies, music, photos. You will benefit from an unparalleled comfort of use. And to put it simply, this model is clearly one of the best in its category for watching videos or listening to music. A quality of image and sound that allows it to achieve an excellent score in this category.
For this model, Fujitsu thought big. A 15.6 inches screen, and a resolution of 1366×768 make it one of the great products available on the market at the moment. Because of its wide screen, it is perfectly designed for watching movies. The rendering is bright and vivid, and if you take a moment to look at the screen from several angles you will see that there is no distortion of the image or inverted colors.
Note that one eliminatory criteria for some nomadic users is its weight; here this model weighs 2.4 kg, partly because of the screen size.
Unfortunately, the screen of this model is not provided with a glossy finish. On the other hand, it will be annoying for regular use in a dark room. The readability of the display is therefore a little lower.
In short, you’ll prefer this finish for daytime movie viewing.
On the sound side, it Lifebook A555 has good components: board and integrated speakers. By pushing the volume with music, we tested the rendering. Even if the result is good, be aware that even the best laptops will never beat a hi-fi system on this point. In other words, if you are demanding on the sound part, you will have to add external speakers.
Even if the use of this laptop does not require the latest generation of processor, be aware that it Intel Core i5-5200U is now outdated. The result will be higher electricity consumption and less quiet than in recent generations. Still, it may be enough for multimedia use, as long as you only run one application at the same time.
Equipped with the Radeon R7 M26 graphic card, and with 8 Gb of RAM, you will be able to see your movies and even do photo editing if needed. This will obviously be a bit light if you want to do 3D imaging, but will suit your needs.
Speaking of connectivity, this laptop provides 3 ports. That makes it one with the biggest number of ports compared to what’s on the market right now. You will be able to connect all your peripherals to it.
As for battery life, it Lifebook A555 can allow you to have a multimedia use in nomadic mode. Fujitsu promises 6 hours of battery life; that’s about average.
The Lifebook A555 to use while travelling.
Easier to transport than a desktop computer, it is not intended for travelling. At least that’s what we find out a priori. It only fits in a computer bag dedicated to its size, and if you decide to take it in your suitcase, it will be at the expense of clothes, it is so big.
Forget about vacations and commuting.
This is one of the heaviest models compared to the competition: 2.4 Kg. It’s unpleasant to carry. For a laptop it”s bulky to move. The weight is mainly related to the size of the screen. With its 15.6 inches, the screen will however render a large image.
Unless perhaps you are used to working in dimly lit areas, you will not be bothered by the absence of a backlit keyboard. But, unless you work in the dark, you won’t see the point.
We enjoy viewing on this screen which displays deep and vivid colours. We appreciate the viewing on this screen.
It is a product that is easy and pleasant to use. The image is beautiful, and with its anti-reflective matt tile, no more problems even outdoors.
Too bad for the processor Intel Core i5-5200U that equips this computer; it is one of the weakest of the moment and moreoverit consumes too much power.
Note that like all manufacturers, Fujitsu is optimistic about the autonomy of this Lifebook A555. This figure is an estimate and consider instead that you will have 70% of this autonomy.
As for the autonomy , the batteries will allow you to use it for about 6 hours.
Because of its probable use for travel, this laptop was thought to be thin and light with a SSD hard drive of 1 256 Gb. SSDs are much faster and lighter, and have no moving parts. With no moving mechanical parts, there is less risk of brittleness and produced heat .For those who do not have enough space on the disk, it will be necessary to go through the option of a subscription on the cloud; the price decreases regularly.
When it comes to traveling, you’ll probably think twice before you take that computer with you. Its size does not invite you to carry it everywhere you go. The reason for this is its size; with 15.6 inches, it is one of the largest laptops of the moment.
At the connector level, this model provides 3 inputs. That makes it one of the best equipped models on the market.
The techno bluetooth of this model will allow you to connect locally to any type of device that accepts this communication protocol: phone, connected speakers, car…
Following our tests, it appeared to us that it is not Lifebook A555 really made for travelling.
The Lifebook A555 to make audio or video editing.
If you’re serious about editing and creating music, then you pay a lot of attention to processor speed and memory. It appears that this Lifebook A555meets this need perfectly. Whether in terms of computing speed or memory capacity, Fujitsu has designed an interesting product. It is a laptop designed for multitasking presented with Windows 7 Pro, which will allow to manage at the same time the audio-video applications consuming calculations.
The components and applications of this laptop are for basic use. It is possible to edit, but it is not the task that the processor Intel Core i5-5200U does best. You’ll soon discover that the processor lacks power and memory.
This model contains an SSD for the operating system and backup part. The advantage is the speed of starting and execution, but the disadvantage is the shorter lifetime of the disk. Here with 256 Gb you will have enough space to store everything. It is nevertheless one of the good laptops in terms of storage, compared to its competitors.
As far as autonomy is concerned, it’s not extraordinary. Indicated for an autonomy of 6 hours by the manufacturer, it is preferable to keep your charger close by if you need to make changes while on the move or if you use a lot of resources for your audio or video editing. A result in the average of the competitors.
Well thought out in terms of connections, it Lifebook A555 receives the USB3 connection. The latest convenient protocol for interfacing computers and electronic devices such as external hard drives. With a throughput about 10 times faster than the previous standard (USB 2.0), you will be able to easily transfer all your video and audio files.
It Lifebook A555 is consequently well designed for this type of use. Audio and video editing will be easier than ever. In summary an excellent choice in this price range.
Lifebook A555 for video games?
Laptops, thanks to the rise in performance of processors and graphics cards, allow some people to gamble. It appears that in terms of performance or on the issue of general cooling, this Lifebook A555 is one of the models in the average. During our tests, we found that the computer was raised correctly, as soon as the scenes in some games required fast movements and colour changes.
This laptop has a resolution in 1366×768, which is one of the poorest existing today. In fact, the game phases will present lower quality images.
The technological evolution being wha it is, this model does much less than many other laptops. Tests have shown the limitations of this laptop, including some image degradation and processor temperature rises. In other words it is a good design model, but due to the lower power of the graphics card, it is less efficient for gaming.
Since Fujitsu has not designed this model for gaming, the display system is not dimensioned for an exemplary reactivity during your gaming sessions. Possibly, the display will be less degraded if you are playing old games, requiring fewer resources.
An average capacity/price ratio that makes this Lifebook A555 an interesting choice when you’re looking for a 256 Gb drive. Useful for local games; as there are still many of them, even though online games are progressing.
The Wi-Fi technology of this model has wifi with 5GHz band, which facilitates online gaming. More speed for those living in full Wi-Fi areas.
With 2.4 Kg, it is likely to remain on your desk more often than in a case to take it on a trip.
By offering 6 hours of autonomy, this computer is in the middle of the market.
So it’s a middle ground for gaming; enough performance at the right price. You can also use it for word processing if you need it.
Lifebook A555 the right choice for office automation ?
Although this does not affect the majority of users, it is important to know the OS of this hardware. The OSes available on the market are all different technical ecosystems with their own applications. This Lifebook A555 is clearly intended for those who will use it for office use.
Here, this model runs under a standard OS. It is equipped with Windows 7 Pro.
As soon as you have to take this laptop to the office, or on a trip, you will regret its consequent weight. This model weighs 2.4 Kg, making it one of the heavyweight.
The numeric keypad is not present on this model. Unless you only do word processing that does not require its use.
Thanks to the matt treated screen surface, there is almost no reflection of direct sunlight or lamps in the offices. With less or no glare, this screen will also stay cleaner for longer.an advantage when working on the screen several hours.
Under normal conditions of use, i.e. during the day, you will have no difficulty with the absence of a backlit keyboard.
As far as storage goes, this computer’s in the average. About 256 Gb, more than enough for office use.
In short, it Lifebook A555 is perfectly suited for word processing and spreadsheet use. It combines ergonomics with power, with an interesting price/quality ratio.
Finally, the Lifebook A555….
Almost impossible for a laptop to be good everywhere, but on the other hand it is possible to obtain a average result. The Lifebook A555′ is average but will do the job very well.
